WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The third Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area flight is set to take 75 local World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 20, according to a HFCFA announcement.

HFCFA is inviting the community to welcome these veterans home that evening when they return to Wilmington International Airport.

“A hub of the national Honor Flight Network, HFCFA was established in 2020 with the sole mission of flying Veterans to Washington, DC free-of-charge for a day of honor and remembrance. Veterans from the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam eras, as well as Veterans from any era that suffer from a life-limiting illness are welcome to apply to travel on the annual spring flight,” the HFCFA release states.

In D.C., the veterans will tour the memorials and monuments built to honor them.

Those interested in welcoming the group back to Wilmington are asked to arrive at ILM at 8:45 p.m. on April 20.

“The charter American Airlines flight is expected to land at ILM at approximately 9:15 p.m. It will likely take 30 to 45 minutes for the group to deplane and for the Veterans to leave the secure area of the terminal. Community members are asked to line the sidewalk outside the terminal, as well as along Airport Boulevard all the way to 23rd Street. Signs, banners, and flags are welcome,” HFCFA adds.
