Leland VFW Post 12196
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
VFW Post 12196 is starting its 4th year in Leland. In that short time, the Post has claimed two All-American awards and an All-State Award, and possibly a second one. In 2020, the Post was selected by Mayor Brenda Bozeman as “The Mayor’s Choice of Citizen of the Year.”
The Post annually hosts events such as the Vietnam War Commemoration Day, Memorial Day activities, July 4 activities, Korean War Commemoration, 911-National Day of Remembrance, Veterans Day activities, and Coat and Can drives to benefit Brunswick Family Assistance Program.
Our mission is based on the idea that “Our service didn’t end with a DD214.” (a DD214 is a military discharge paper) In three years, including a pandemic, we have grown to 84 members. In terms of membership growth, Post 12196 is currently ranked #8 in the Nation for Posts our size. Every program is designed to give back to our community, including our Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen, Teacher of the Year, Safety Officer of the Year, food-raising efforts for Manna Ministries, or the Kentucky Flood Relief. Our three years of Coat Drives have yielded over 600 coats donated to Brunswick Family Assistance.
