Winter-Spring Agenda for Post 12196

The Post meets the second Tuesday of each month at Blossoms Restaurant. We have dinner at 5:30, and the meeting starts at 7 pm.

Our Tuesday morning “Veterans Coffee” is going well. We are changing locations to the new Exxon on Lanvale Road, across from the Kicking Mule. (intersection of HWY 74 and Lanvale Road) We meet at 9 am.

I am working with the District 5 President of the VFW Auxiliary to organize and receive a Charter for a Post 12196 Auxiliary. If your spouse or other family members are interested in becoming a Charter Member of our Auxiliary, please have them contact me as soon as possible.  We hope to have our first organizing meeting soon.

We are looking at a full schedule of community events over the next few months and encourage each of you to join us in serving our community.

Schedule of planned events:

Jan. 28 Vietnam War Peace-Joint activity with Fuzzy Peach, Leland NC Gelly Ball, and Cape Fear Voices/Teen Scene. A day of fun and celebration. 1109 New Pointe Blvd., Leland. 12-4 pm.

Feb. 11 Can Drive 9-3 at Founders Park, including Fuzzy Peach and Deb Pickett. Founders Park, Leland, 9 am-3 pm.

Feb. 14 Post meeting starts at 7 pm. The speaker will be Councilman Bill McHugh. No dinner that night due to Valentine’s Day activities at Blossoms.

Feb. 25 Chamber Expo-VFW will have a booth to meet and greet people. Leland Cultural Arts Center. Bring your children or grandchildren and drop by and stay awhile.

Feb. 28 Forth Tuesday Shuck and Shack. All members, including spouses and children, are invited to join us for a fun night, no business.   We plan on this event every 4th

Tuesday of the month.  5:30-8 pm.

Mar. 11 St. Patrick’s Day Parade Wilmington- More info to follow. Families and children are invited to walk with us. See their webpage at https://www.wilmingtonparade.com/

Mar. 14 Post Meeting- Open nominations for new officers.

Mar. 29 Vietnam Veterans Day 5 pm at Blossoms Restaurant- All Vietnam Era Veterans are welcome to join us. To receive a pin and recognition, pre-registering is required.

April 11 Post Meeting-Elections of new officers. Swearing of all new members and new officers.

May 9 Post Meeting- Awards Ceremony. We will recognize winners of Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen, Teacher of the Year, Safety Officer of the Year, and more.

May 27 Buddy Poppy Drives-three locations Seashore Car Wash, Piggly Wiggly, Tractor Supply.

May 30 Memorial Day Services.
